Apple’s top 10 TV shows and about 1500 hours of programming came from NBC universal. However, recently NBC pulled out its TV shows from iTunes. Some of the reasons seemed piracy and pricing, with pricing being the prime criteria. NBC reportedly feels that it should be NBC, not Apple that should decide the retail price for the TV shows. In a recent on stage interview at Ad tech conference in SanFransisco, George Kliavkoff, chief digital officer at NBC Universal, asserted without taking names of ipod or itunes that piracy was a key issue too. He also made it clear this week that NBC would like to resume selling its television programming through the iTunes Store if Apple made changes to its client software that would allow it to serve as the gatekeeper for all forms of potentially pirated media. Quoting George Kliavkoff, “If you look at studies about MP3 players, especially leading MP3 players and what portion of that content is pirated, and think about how that content gets onto that device, it has to go through a gatekeeping piece of software, which would be a convenient place to put some antipiracy measure. One of the big issues for NBC is piracy. We are financially harmed every day by piracy.” Apple uses a digital rights management (DRM) software embedded within each audio and video file it sells. It seems like NBC want to extend this to track every piece of digital media imported in or out of the iTunes library. It seems like NBC has decided to take the stick on piracy now in a big way.

Pop Games’ Bejewelled has been updated and released. This version is fully compatible with iPod nano and classic.

The earlier version was dropped last week from the iTunes stores list of ipod games due to its incompatibility. Now,bejewelled is only one of the games that is available in the an iPod touch and iPhone compatible format. This game basically involves players making a maximum number of matches of the 8 by 8 grid of coloured gems.

As you probably know, we only try and put up the coolest stuff here at Ipod Downloads.

Anyway, I should have put this up earlier, but I’ve been carried away playing it for the past week or so.

You see, most of you will recognize from the pic above, that the pic is some sort of crazy Rubix Cube. But what’s cool about it is that you can play it in safari on your Ipod.

Now, I gotta warn you that it takes a bit of time to getting used to. Especially those side way movements and all. But once you got the hang of it, you’ll find it as addictive as sniffing glue or something.

Anyway, before I give you the link to play it, here are the instructions to play it;

Rotate the cube to any angle to see every side. Use the small arrows by the cube to turn faces and the large arrows to rotate the cube. Tap on the cube to start or stop automatic free rotation. Shuffle or solve the puzzle by tapping the cube icon in the upper right corner.

A new Blackmagic Video Recorder has been introduced by Blackmagic Design. This is a compact video capture device to record videos in h.264 format. It can be used in iPod, iPhone and Apple TV. Features of the Blackmagic video recorder include:

This weekend’s circular of Radio Shack’s features the iPod touch. Well what is interesting in that? Wait a bit. It features the iPod touch … with the Installer and mobile chat icons! So that would mean a jailbroken iPod, that too in a highly viewed ad. That would also mean that buyers would not receive an IM installation with this fancy purchase. PBS and local PBS stations KQED (San Francisco), WETA (Washington, D.C.), WGBH (Boston) and WNET (New York) have begun offering free educational multimedia and other educational resources on iTunesU. Interesting programmes include New Media Studies, a collection of short video podcasts covering topics in digital storytelling,soundtracks and iMovie. The PBS collection also includes digital lessons and educational resources from the Ken Burns’ documentary ‘The War’ and ‘Meet the Author’ which features more than 40 children’s book authors and illustrators. It is good news for classic movie lovers. A new podcast “Matinee classic” is now offered by iTunes store. Matinee classic has a collection of old movies and TV shows and the best part is it is all free. Well the only really negative aspect that I can think of is that the quality of some of the movies is not that great to watch on a big screen, but they are decent for an iPod. Also the quality of the video is very variable. But still is it too good to be true as it is all free. So, get ready to watch your favourite classic movie now on your iPod.
